Work has officially started on the new multi-million pound Clipstone Health Centre, which is set to be open by the summer.

A turf-cutting ceremony was held on the site next to the Crown Farm roundabout on Thursday, although workmen have been on site since the beginning of November.

Practice manager Matt Doig said: “It feels fantastic, it’s been three-and-a-half years since we started this.

“There’s been so much effort gone into this from everyone concerned, so it’s great to finally be here.

“We have to jump a lot hurdles every step of the way, so I suppose it’s just a sense of relief.”

The decision to move from their current First Avenue surgery was taken because of an increase in patients over the years left the site ‘bursting at the seams’.

Moving to the new site, between Clipstone Road West and Clipstone Road East, would also make the practice more central for the thousands of patients registered, many of which are from Forest Town and Mansfield.

Funded through a third party, the opening date for the new surgery will be 25th August.

Clipstone Health Centre already has more than 9,500 patients, and the new surgery will accommodate thousands more.

With hundreds of new homes expected to be built next to the new surgery, the influx of patients is certain to continue rising.

“There’s there’s a lot of room for expansion,” added Matt.

“There will be extra rooms built so there’s significant room for growth.

“The current building was just not big enough to accommodate the patients we have at the moment.”
