Kirkby super slimmer Stuart Eggleshaw narrowly missed out on an a national award despite his impressive fat-busting efforts.

The 43-year-old, who also works at Mansfield Town, was one of 36 entrees for Slimming World’s Man of the Year 2014 and eventually made it to the final ten.

Stuart has gone from 37st to 14st 9.5lbs since joining his local Slimming World group in September 2012.

Stuart had lived on a diet of junk food since he was young and admitted he was in denial about his weight, but a car crash several years ago put his life into perspective and he made the decision to shed the pounds.

And by changing his lifestyle, including plenty of exercise, the weight has dropped off.

He recently met Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster at Slimming World’s head office in Alfreton, who was impressed by Stuart’s determination to turn his life around.

She said: “What Stuart has achieved is as inspiring as any sportsperson I’ve met and he should be so proud of the way in which he’s transformed himself – and his whole life for that matter.”

Annette Towle, who runs the Sutton Slimming World group which Stuart attends, added: “Stuart is almost unrecognisable from the man who walked into my group all those months ago but it’s been quite a gradual change. He’s shown that making small changes to the way you eat and becoming more active bit by bit can make a huge difference, and I hope he inspires lots of other men who’d like to lose weight.”
