Praise for sex education class

A TIBSHELF School teacher has been recognised for her work by a young people’s sexual health charity Brook.

Sue Allen, who is Head of PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), was shortlisted for the Sexual Health Professional of the Year award and, on Thursday, she went to this year’s Brook Awards at the America Square Conference Centre in London.

Tibshelf School was nominated for its work on HIV/Aids and its Cabbages and Condoms project.

Thrilled Sue said: “Although we didn’t win, Tibshelf students should be proud of their nomination.

“Tibshelf was the only school in the UK to be represented. Despite Tibshelf’s project being described as ‘inspirational’ we were up against some very experienced organisations such as the Family Planning Association.”

The event was hosted by Eastenders actors Jonny Partridge and Marc Elliot, who play Christian and Syed, and was supported by boyband JLS who are working with Durex in their condom campaign aimed at young people.

The awards recognised the work of young people and professionals.
