AN intrepid group of eight are embarking on the Three Peaks Challenge thanks to the inspirational cancer fight of one young boy.

Sarah Hornsby, her husband Tony and six of their friends and family are taking on the mountains of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon to fundraise for Children With Cancer UK.

Their motivation is Tony’s six year-old nephew, Ewan Price, who is 13 months into a three year three month treatment programme for leukaemia.

“We wanted to fundraise on behalf of Ewan who is doing quite well at the moment,” explained Sarah who lives on Garth Road, Mansfield. “It is going to be a very big challenge as we are attempting to climb all three in 24 hours.”

The team will start their ascent of Ben Nevis at 5pm on Saturday 19th May, which is expected to take five hours. They will then tackle Scafell at 4am on Sunday followed by Snowdon, hopefully finishing at 5pm.

“Some of the team have climbed them individually before but none of us have climbed all three one after the other,” added Sarah. “We are practicing by walking in Derbyshire and hope to try the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

“I have been training by pushing my baby in the buggy up and down the hills of Mansfield too.”

The team, who are aged between 24 and 40, are hoping to raise around £3,000 between them.
