Health and fitness events for older folk

Free health and fitness taster sessions are being offered to older people in Sutton thanks to a grant given to Age UK Notts by the Big Lottery Fund.

Aimed at people who want to improve their mental and physical health, these sessions will enable older folk to find out more about healthy eating as well as to sample physical and craft activities.

The first session is taking place on Monday (20th January) at the Lammas Leisure Centre on Lammas Road between 10am and 12pm.

For those that enjoy the day, the launch will be followed by further healthy eating and activity sessions.

Physical activities on offer include Tai Chi, seated yoga, golden zumba and seated exercise, whilst craft activities include glass and textile painting, hand massage, card craft and flower arranging.

There will also be opportunities to sample healthy food, get new recipe ideas and browse stalls hosted by local councils, health organisations and faith groups.

Mick Tinkler, chief executive at Age UK Notts, said the sessions will help improve people’s physical and mental health.

“We hope these taster sessions will encourage people to try something new, whether that’s a new physical activity, a new hobby or simply a new healthy recipe,” he said.

For more information on the sessions, contact Sylvia Porter, support and activities co-ordinator at Age UK Notts, on 01773 864 510 or 07872 839 563.
