A headteacher has moved to scotch rumours that her village school had to be evacuated after a knife-wielding child went on the rampage.
Helen Foster sent a letter to worried parents after the alleged incident at King Edwin Primary School in Edwinstowe.
The police confirmed that they did receive a call to attend the Fourth Avenue school on Tuesday, October 20, but Mrs Foster said the matter had been ‘contained’.
The school would not go into the details of what happened, but it was understood the youngster had simply locked himself in a classroom.
Mrs Foster said: “We are aware of rumour and speculation.
“At no time were any children hurt or in danger. Despite persistent rumours there were no knives or weapons involved, the child was not tasered and restrained by the police, the child did not threaten any other children or members of staff, nor were any laptop or computers damaged.”
She said the police had been called by the youngster’s carers, rather than the school.
