Head delighted with latest Ofsted report

The school has been awarded an overall good with outstanding behaviour.

Mr Wilkinson said the school’s achievements were due to the dedication and hard work of all members of staff, support from governors, parents and the local community and its pupils.

He added: “I would like to say thank you and congratulations to everyone who is part of our school community.

“When Crescent was last inspected in 2009, the outcomes were the same. But the inspection framework has changed several times since then and expectations have increased each time.

“With this in mind, to achieve the same outcomes demonstrates continuous school improvement and good progress.”

Inspectors praised the standard of teaching as well-planned and effective, saying the wide variety of activities and methods kept pupils interested in their learning.

Mr Wilkinson’s ‘exemplary’ leadership was also noted as creating ‘a united and committed staff who all have the pupils’ interests at heart.’

But the inspectors said Crescent was not yet outstanding because the standard of boys’ writing could have been higher, maths teaching was not as well organised as other subjects and did not always challenge the most able pupils.

The school was also criticised for not always allowing pupils to apply their mathematical skills to real-life.

Comments were made that teachers’ marking did not make clear to pupils how they could improve their work and the outside accommodation in the Early Years Foundation Stage was described as ‘quite shabby’ and did not extend the indoor learning environment.
