Have your say on the future of Clipstone Headstocks

The Headstocks at Clipstone are a reminder of the village's proud mining heritage, and now a survey has been launched to find out resident's views on the landmark.

The Clipstone Colliery Regeneration Group (CCRG) have released a survey to ask residents what they want to see in the future for the Grade II-listed Clipstone Colliery Headstocks and adjoining buildings.

The survey has been delivered to every household in Clipstone.

The CCRG are hoping that by redevolping the site, Clipstone will attract investment, jobs and opportunities for residents.

In March, the group were awarded £142,800 by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a feasibility study, to see if it would be viable to transform Clipstone Colliery into an activity centre.

Now, the CCRG want to find out what residents think about the four proposed options for the site.

The options are:

An adventure centre

A business hub for small start up businesses

A community hub which could potentially include a heritage centre, art gallery and cafe

A learning centre, teaching skills linked to science, technology and engineering.

There is also an option to suggest your own ideas.

Stuart Mollat, director of CCRG said: “The CCRG team and I have been working tirelessly with our partners, structural engineers and business planners to come up with a long term plan for the existing colliery site and buildings in Clipstone.

“Our simple aim is to re-energise the site and local community with potential investment and job opportunities, while ensuring the site is self-sustaining in the future.

We aim to achieve these objectives by engaging with the community to help decide on key decision such as purposes and design of Clipstone colliery.

“To support the engagement process we have recently sent every household in the local area a survey to canvass local opinions, as we have identified four potentially sustainable “main use” options for the site and we are currently in the process of collating initial responses.

“We would love to hear from the community with their ideas for how we might re-energise the Clipstone colliery site.

“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to have their say by returning the form, or completing the online survey, before the closing date (5th December 2018).

“If these plans sound exciting to you, or if you would like to know more about the project before completing the response form, more information can be found below:
