Haircut to help fund dream Lapland trip

Georgina Cotton, (17), who is a student at Manor College, will be chopping off her 22 inch tresses to raise money for the ‘When You Wish Upon A Star charity.’

The charity grant the wishes of terminally ill children.

Seven years ago, the charity helped Georgina’s cousin Ollie Rycraft achieve his dream of visiting Lapland before he passed away at the age of 14.

Now Georgina aims to give something back to the heart-warming charity on 14th March

She said: “I’m a little bit nervous about what I’m going to look like, but it’s all for a good cause. My mum thinks I’m crazy for doing it!”

The Manor College student will be letting her friends snip off the majority, then she will be letting Tracey Morley, hair and beauty teacher at The Manor Academy, shave off her remaining locks.

“Lapland was somewhere that Ollie had always wanted to go, and although he was very ill he had such an amazing time,” she said.

“I was 10 at the time, and it’s only since I have been older that I’ve been able to really appreciate what the charity did for him. Ideally, I hope to make around £500.”

Maggie Falconer, East Midlands Regional Fundraiser for When You Wish Upon A Star, said: “We rely solely on donations from our supporters and we would like to thank Georgina for being so brave as to have her hair shaved off to raise funds for our charity.

“In 2014 the Charity will again be taking hundreds of children on a very special magical trip to Lapland to meet the real Father Christmas, which is one of the biggest highlights for the charity costing £90,000 to charter the flight. “
