Guest Column: Support from businesses is so important to us
Back in 2016, Mansfield Building Society contacted me and asked if I would like to come along and talk about the work Macmillan does locally and how it could help if we were chosen as its charity.
So, I went along with excitement and a few nerves and talked to a room full of people and explained about the number of people in Nottinghamshire being diagnosed with cancer and how the demand for our services was going to increase.

One year in, and after numerous cake sales, climbing Snowdon, a sponsored walk between each of its branches (Mansfield, Sutton, Kirkby and Chesterfield) and signing up to one of our Mighty Hike challenges in the Peak District, the Mansfield had raised more than £7,000 in the first year alone.
Everyone at the Mansfield has been so supportive and enthusiastic and we are so proud to work with a company that is at the heart of the community.
Vickie Preston, HR manager at the Mansfield branch of the building society, wrote to me.

“The support from Macmillan has been terrific .
“Whilst it is a national charity, it is able to channel The Mansfield’s funding and support locally, which is extremely important to us.
“In addition, there is no shortage of initiatives we can get involved in, ranging from coffee mornings to Mighty Hikes and even the Big Quiz.
“Macmillan is a great charity to work with.”
