GUEST COLUMN: Delve into history at county archives, says Coun John Knight

Notts County Council’s archives service is hosting a wide range of events and activities for all ages over the coming weeks and is keen for everyone to get involved.

As well as the chance to tour the recently modernised archives service building, there are a variety of opportunities around workshops, talks, family fun focusing on a range of topics.

One event is a Free Heritage Open Day event taking place in September exploring the medieval history of the county to mark the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt.

Following a £2.5 million investment in the service earlier this year, there are a number of archive tours, a chance to look at documents in the archives and the opportunity to look around the search room over the next few weeks.

The building has additional space to accommodate new archives for decades to come, including specialist storage for photographs and digital media.

It includes an additional new meeting room/multi-purpose learning space and improved computer suite for accessing digital heritage with free public wi-fi throughout the building.

Our first few events since we reopened in May have been very successful and there is much more to explore with exciting opportunities for people to explore what we have in our archives already and contribute their own information if they wish.

We are seeking to build up the most comprehensive history of Notts to benefit future generations so everyone can play a part in this.
