Green light for new housing bid

Planning officials at Gedling Borough Council have approved plans for developers to build the new properties on land off Longdale Lane in the village.

But developers must comply with several restrictions before full planning permission can be awarded.

These include a commitment that at least 30 per cent of all the properties be bungalows built for older people.

Developments to junctions and more pedestrian crossings must also be put in place before building can begin.

The area was classified as Green Belt until 2005, when the law changed.

The land, made up of a several fields and a small area of woodland is now classified as ‘white land’ - safeguarding it from ‘inappropriate development’.

“The intention was that this land would not be developed in the foreseeable future, but should remain available for development at a later date,” planning documents state.

Last week Chad reported that plans to build a Sainsbury’s Local store in the village had been rejected for a second time by the council due to road safety concerns.
