Green Flag awards for town parks

At Tichfield Park, to mark five Mansfield District Council parks getting Green Flag awards: Members of the parks team, portfolio holder for the environment coun Andrew Tristram, coun Brian Lohan and members of Maun Conservation Group.

Carr Bank Park, King George V Park, Titchfield Park, all in Mansfield, plus Peafield Park and Yeoman Hill Park in Mansfield Woodhouse are among a record-breaking 1,582 parks and green spaces given the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Award - the mark of a quality park or green space.

Coun Andrew Tristram, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive five Green Flag Awards from Keep Britain Tidy. We are extremely proud of our parks and these awards are down to our Parks team, friends’ groups and local schools who do a great job all year round. Congratulations to Maun Conservation Group who are deserved winners of the first Community Award in the district.”

A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Love Parks Week (July 24 to August 2), an annual celebration of the country’s green spaces and the community groups that bring them to life.

Maun Conservation Group won a Green Flag Community Award for their work at Quarry Lane Local Nature Reserve.

It is the first time a group in the district has won a Community Award.

Recent projects that the group has been involved in include creating a family picnic area at the Mill Pond and pond dipping with the Mini Maun Club and King Edward’s Primary School.

The group works tirelessly to keep the area clean and well maintained, taking part in regular litter picks and planting flowers and saplings.
