Green bin collections due to be suspended across Bolsover district

Green bin collections across Bolsover district and North East Derbyshire are due to be suspended over the winter months from the end of November 2013.

The green bin collections will cease after 22nd November 2013 in Bolsover District and 1st December 2013 in North East Derbyshire District and they will resume in early March 2014.

The Councils are suspending green bin collections during the winter months because people are less active in the garden and there is little green waste being produced. Figures show that only 551tonnes (8.2%) of green waste were collected during December to February last year out of a total of 6,721tonnes collected throughout the rest of the year.

If residents do have jobs to do around the garden during the winter, this can be left in the green bin to be collected during the spring, or taken to their nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.

New bin collection calendars will also be delivered to households across the area during November informing residents of the collection arrangements for Christmas 2013 and Bank Holidays 2014.

Black and burgundy bins will be collected as normal, but to help residents with the extra waste over the festive period there will be two black bin collections prior to Christmas week, during weeks commencing 9 December and 16 December, and two black bin collections after Christmas, during weeks commencing 30 December and 6 January.
