Grant is heaven sent for South Normanton Church
St Michael’s and All Angels Church in South Normanton has received £33,000 from English Heritage towards the essential work.
The 900 year-old church is grade II listed and the cost of repairs will run to £73,000.

Hide AdOne wall of the tower is beginning to bow outwards and needs urgent work on it to prevent further deterioration, the stones around the top need resetting and the pinnacles need to be replaced in order to save the building .
There are hopes work will start in early 2014, however there is still more fundraising required.
St Michael’s Rev Stephen Potter said “It is such a privilege to worship in this ancient building which has been cared for by the people of South Normanton for 900 years, and we are very grateful to English Heritage for their support in helping us to maintain it.
“The church and church hall are used by many and various groups in the local community on a regular basis.

Hide Ad“Despite not being able to use the tower, the usual Sunday services are being held and the church is open every Saturday morning for anyone who wants to look around this interesting, old building.”
Members of St Michael’s are looking for further sources of funding and also organising many fund raising events.
