GP crisis at a Kirkby medical practice

A statement issued by Mansfield and Ashfield CCG said that Mansfield-based Central Nottinghamshire Clinical Services (CNCS), which runs the Kirkby Primary Care Centre, in Portland Street, has recognised that it cannot provide a suitable quality of care to patients.

Dr Amanda Sullivan, chief officer at the CCG, said a caretaker arrangement has now been put in place with existing GPs providing patient care, after CNCS stepped down ‘by mutual consent’.

In a statement, she said: “Issues identified relate to the lack of suitable GP cover and management issues resulting in difficulties in ensuring the delivery of care to the standard that patients are entitled to expect.

“As a result of those concerns and to make sure routine GP services can continue at the same location, the CCG has taken immediate steps to provide a temporary service operated by local GPs and managed by commissioners.

“We are sorry to patients registered at Kirkby whose experience at the practice fell short of the standards we expect. We hope the temporary service in place will meet all their health care needs.

“In the meantime, the CCG is looking to commission a long-term partnership to enable patients who use the primary care centre in the future to benefit from additional GP services, such as minor surgery and diagnostic services.”

CNCS, which is based in Oaktree Lane and also runs Primary Care 24 at King’s Mill Hospital, has not yet commented on the move.
