Gordon’s three -year dementia fundraiser

Gordon, 79 signed up for his first Target Twelve Hundred challenge shortly after his wife, Dinah, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011.

Three years on, Mr Hobbs has raised almost £4,000 for the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

Gordon, who became the first person to successfully complete Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Target Twelve Hundred challenge twice, said:

“Before Dinah’s diagnosis, I wasn’t really aware of the effect Alzheimer’s disease could have on people. I chose to support Alzheimer’s Research UK because I’d dearly like to see a treatment that could help people with this disease – I don’t want others to have to go through what we’re dealing with. Research is the only answer and I’m proud to have been able to make a contribution.”

The fundraising initiative asks people to pledge to raise £1,200 in 12 months, any way they want to.

Gordon smashed the target in his first year, raising an impressive £1,700.

He then met his target again in 2012, raising a further £1,200.

Mr Hobbs has already raised £850 this year, which was boosted on 25th April when he held a charity dinner at the 281 Restaurant & Hotel in Mansfield.

The event, which cost £15 and included a three-course meal, musical entertainment and raffle, raised £400.

Gordon’s next event is a breakfast morning, which will be held at Skegby Methodist Church on Saturday 7th June, followed by a bowls tournament at Teversal Bowls Club on Sunday 17th August.
