COUNCILLORS have given the green light for two new supermarkets to be built in Mansfield.
At a planning meeting on Monday, Mansfield District Council gave Sainsbury’s permission to knock down its current store on Nottingham Road and build a much larger supermarket at the nearby Boneham and Turner engineering works site.
As part of the application a new Aldi store will also built at the same location, while the existing Sainsbury’s site will provide car parking for both of the new stores.
Council officers had recommended refusal of the plans, but councillors voted in favour after hearing about the level of public support for the stores.
