Firefighters at Edwinstowe fire station are taking part in the annual charity car wash - in aid of the The Fire Fighters Charity.
The charity car wash is taking place until 2pm today (September 22) at the Mansfield Road fire station.
This month crews from across the Service are running car washes in aid of the organisation – but do you know what The Fire Fighters Charity does?
Every year, thousands of firefighters are injured whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, firefighters are called to an incident putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties.
By providing pioneering treatment and support services, The Fire Fighters Charity is there for firefighters during their times of need.
In the last five years, more than 300 NFRS personnel have received intervention through the charity’s centre based rehabilitation, recuperation, child and family programmes or the community based support.
For the charity to continue to support as many individuals as possible, it is essential that its income each year – from voluntary donations and fundraising events – matches the cost of delivering their services. NFRS staff play a significant part in helping to ensure this, by hosting various fundraising events throughout the year. Events include car washes, open days, pantomimes, Chief’s Challenges, bucket collections plus many more. More than £500,000 has been raised in the past five years.
So how is your money spent?
£5 – Covers the cost of one exercise therapy session which allows one beneficiary to attend a group exercise therapy session at one of the Charity’s centres.
£20 – Covers the cost of one psychological support session which allows one beneficiary the chance to speak to a psychological therapist.
£30 – Covers the cost of running the Charity’s Service Access Line, for one hour. The line is a vital first point of contact for beneficiaries.
