Get on your bike, or your feet, this weekend and celebrate the opening of a great new local facility.
Active Ashfield’s fun walk, run and, cycle event is set to take place on Sunday, April 26, at Kingsway Park, Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
The event is being held to coincide with the launch of the 2015 Active Ashfield Games, and the park’s new playground equipment and re-surfaced all-weather sports pitches.
Carol Hallam, community wellbeing team leader at Ashfield District Council, said: “This is a great way for people to get together with friends and family to take part in activity in a fun environment, while raising funds to help our local Olympians and Paralympians.”
Participants can sign up on the day between 9am and 9.45am at a cost of £3 per person, or £5 per family of four.
All entry fees will be donated to Olympians from Ashfield Support in Sport (OASIS).
OASIS is a voluntary group helping local athletes selected for the Olympic or Paralympic Games, like Kirkby’s 2012 swimming gold medalist Oliver Hynd.
Participants can opt to walk, run, cycle or use a wheelchair on a course of one mile or five kilometres.
Everyone who completes their chosen distance will receive a medal and drawstring bag.
There will also be free, fun activities for the whole family on the park during the morning.
