Get involved in The Big Wildlife Garden

Local charity Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is asking people to encourage wildlife into their garden by taking part in The Big Wildife Garden - a national online campaign to create ‘Britain’s largest nature reserve’.

The new website launched this month aims to combat habitat loss, asking visitors to enter their own garden into a competition and awarding points for small actions towards making gardens of all sizes more wildlife friendly.

This new initiative has emerged from a partnership between the UK’s leading nature conservation charity, The Wildlife Trusts, along with the Royal Horticultural Society.

Visitors to the website will be able to access facts and advice for attracting wildlife to their garden, with an award scheme rewarding those who follow the top tips. Putting out birdseed, for example, will give equates to one point, with points accumulating to attain a bronze, silver, gold or green awards. If you think your garden is particularly nature friendly, the Big Wildlife Garden Competition is open to all and includes six categories, catering for every type of garden. Prizes include free membership to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and The Royal Horticultural Society plus attendance at a Wildlife Gardening Masterclass at the Hampton Court Flower Show.
