Staff and customers at a Mansfield store have been praised for their extraordinary effort to collect toys to help disadvantaged children.

This year’s Argos Toy Exchange has raised £550,000 for children’s charity, Barnardo’s, and a total of £2.5 million over the four-year partnership.

The Mansfield store in particular did amazingly well, and raised almost £6,000, after almost 500 bags were donated by generous residents.

During the six-week toy exchange, Barnardo’s received more than 46,000 bags, worth approximately £552,000 in donated toys, raising vital funds for disadvantaged children across the UK.

Lynn Perry, regional director of Barnardo’s, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the Mansfield area who has taken part and donated their pre-loved toys to Barnardo’s. These vital funds will be helping vulnerable children locally.

“Our partnership with the Argos Toy Exchange has been a huge success, raising £2.5 million pounds.”

Amy Whidburn, head of corporate responsibility for Argos, said: “As a family retailer, we are delighted that the money raised is going to help support some of the most disadvantaged children in the local area.”
