Labour’s Gloria De Piero easily retained the Ashfield seat on a desperately disappointing night for the party nationally.
Ms De Piero, the Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, secured a massive majority of 8,820 when results were announced in Kirkby.
Conservative Helen Harrison was second with 10,628 votes and UKIP’s Simon Ashcroft third with 10,150.
The Lib Dems, who lost the seat by less than 200 votes five years ago, slumped to fourth, with candidate Philip Smith gaining 7,030 votes. Justice for Men and Boys candidate Mike Buchanan was fifth with 153 votes.
