Garibaldi College launch newspaper

A group of budding journalists at Garibaldi College have launched their own student newspaper.

Since September the enthusiastic pupils have interviewed, written, edited and published their professional, innovative first edition.

The newspaper voices the interests of Garibaldi students and features excellent contributions such as The Outstanding Y5/Y6 Open evening, written by Y10 students Beatrice Shaw and Chelsea Bennett and the Latest Site Development news, written by Y9 student Joseph Kirkby.

As part of the Garibaldi Newspaper launch the students were visited by Chad’s news editor Stephen Thirkill.

Stephen worked alongside the aspiring journalists to help them write articles, add photos and research future ideas for the College paper as well as give top tips for future success.

Speaking after the visit Stephen said: “It was a pleasure to visit the school and see the excellent work of the pupupils involved.

“I was impressed by the enthusiasm of everyone involved and the amount of thought and effort that has gone into the project.

“Clearly there are some good stories that have been covered that keep everyone involved with the school informed about what is going on at the school.

“I am looking forward to seeing the first edition and wish the school every success for the future.”

The pupils are now currently working on a name for their publication and have launchd an interactive competition to allow the students of Garibaldi College an opportunity to name their own Newspaper.

The students of Garibaldi College are keen to share their newspaper success with the wider community and their newspaper is available and can be accessed in local libraries, online via a link on the Garibaldi website, Facebook and Twitter.
