Further action needs to be taken at failing school

The latest report from the monitoring inspection for Leamington Primary and Nursery Academy has been published and it states there is still room for improvement.

Inspector Derek Myers said: “The 2015 results, particularly at Key Stage 2, were unacceptably low.

“Hence, the challenge for the academy to become good within the expected time is now greater than before.”

It was first inspected as an academy in May 2015 and was rated as requires improvement.

It is now subject to regular monitoring inspections.

An academy development plan was given at the last visit and Mr Myers said: “You have worked hard on the plan and it is testament to your desire to do everything possible to improve the academy.

“However, it is too detailed and lacks clarity. As a result, it is difficult for colleagues to use.”

The report stated senior and middle leaders have raised expectations at the academy.

Although teaching has been reviewed it is noted “these initiatives have not yet had the necessary impact on pupils’ outcomes or resulted in improved teaching across the academy”.

To improve the academy must now look at upgrading the development plan and ensure the website meets the statutory requirements.

Headteacher Emma Hanson said: “The inspector recognised the work being done to improve outcomes for children, both in the focused pupil progress meetings carried out by leaders with teachers and in ensuring pupils are engaged in learning. He also recognised that the quality of teaching across the academy is improving.

“Our Academy Sponsor, SPTA, was recognised for the appropriate level of support it is providing and the impact this is having.”
