The custom-built centre, which spans 13,750 square feet, is unique to the furniture industry in the UK.

It will house the company’s full design team, along with a development team of upholsterers, machinists and CAD (computer-aided design) operators, who will be responsible for creating production-ready protoypes of Whitemeadow’s latest sofas and furniture products.

The centre, which took seven months to construct and fit out, also houses a showroom displaying the firm’s products and showcasing the latest trends in furniture design.

Ian Oscroft, Whitemeadow’s managing director, said: “To be successful in our industry, you have to be able to design ‘wow’ products that excite the public.

“We have invested heavily in the design and development side of our business because that’s what excites our customers.

“This centre is the best facility of its type in the industry and will keep us at the forefront of UK furniture design.”

Founded in 1990, Whitemeadow employs about 500 people across six sites in the Ashfield area.
