Funeral is held for Walesby’s Tunisia victim

Mr Stollery, 57, was killed during the terrorist attack in Tunisia last month.

Hundreds attended his funeral at St Edmund’s Church in Walesby on Monday afternoon, and many stood outside to listen to the service which was played over PA system outside.

He worked at Nottinghamshire County Council for the past 33 years and for the last 16 years was a dedicated social worker working with children in care.

His colleague Steve Edwards said: “He was a brilliant character, really considerate. He would got the extra mile, particularly for children, and his colleagues could rely on him.

“He touched the lives of many people in many different ways.”

Members of John’s former regiment, 2 Para, were also be in attendance, and his former colleague Kenny Fuller spoke about their tours of duty in Belfast in the mid-70s.

He added: “He was brave, courageous and nothing was too much trouble. John was a true airborne warrior.

“We were friends and comrades and we are proud to say we knew him.”

John Stollery was one of 38 victims killed by a gunman in the Tunisian town of Sousse on June 26.

A funeral was held earlier this month for Gainsborough woman, Carly Lovett, who was also killed.
