Fundraiser launched by cricket club

Cricketers in Hucknall are appealing for donations to help them refit their facilities.

Nathan Whittamore, a Nottinghamshire and England cricket fan, who has also been a Hucknall Cricket Club player for a number of years, is helping to lead a fund-raising drive for £5,000.

Following successful funding applications to Nottinghamshire County Council and Biffa Awards, the club’s pavilion extension is now under way, as is the refurbishment of the current building.

Mr Whittamore said: “Finances are in place for the building work, but we are still looking to raise £5,000 for the re-fit of the lounge, kitchen and bar.

“Donations can be made anonymously and donations of any amount would be much appreciated by the cricket club, community and youth teams.

“Anybody donating £20 or more will receive recognition in the refurbished lounge.”

The club runs four teams in the South Notts Cricket League and a team in the Premier Division of the Mansfield & District Cricket League, which it won in 2012. As a Clubmark club, it also has youth cricket at Kwik cricket, U11, U12, U13 and U15 teams.

Nathan, who has set up an online site for donating through the Just Giving website at www.justgiving.com/hucknallcricketclub, added that the club had been in contact with cricketers such as Adam Gilchrist and Steve Harmison, who had helped promote the good cause across the world via social media.

On the Just Giving page, one person wrote “Brilliant club! Upgrading to brilliant facilities! Roll on 2014!!”, while another, Teresa Oxley, wrote: “keep up the good work hope you raise what you need.”
