Fundraiser for car crash man

The family of a Mansfield man who was in a five-month coma after colliding with a tree in an horrific care crash are holding a fundraiser to buy him a specially adapted wheelchair.

Brenon Coates (24), of Jenkins Avenue, sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre after the Abbott Road accident on 23rd October 2012.

The business management graduate is now preparing to come out of hospital after a long recovery, during which he had to learn to speak again.

But the road to recovery will not be an easy one and his grandmother, Joan Broadley, is organising a family fun day at the Ladybrook pub on Saturday to help pay for the £3,000 chair.

Said Joan: “At the time we did not know whether he would ever wake up again but we just said we were not going to give up on him.

“We just thought if we kept trying to talk to him he would not give up.

“There was always someone with him and I think it made a difference.”

The fun day will feature a car boot sale, bouncy castle, face painting, a plant stall and a tombola.

A £3 fee will be charged for Car boot sellers.

Proceeds from the day will go to the Brenon Needs A Wheelchair fund.
