Funding boost for fire safety

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Corner House, on Margaret Street, which provides residential care for people with learning disabilities, has received £4,000 of On Fire funding from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to organise the sessions.

The sessions – which take place on Friday (15th November) and Saturday 7th December at Warsop’s The Oaklands Centre, on Oakfield Lane – are specifically tailored to teach people with learning disabilities the knowledge they need to minimise the risk of fire in the home.

Local service manager Joanne Hardwick said: “It’s very unusual to have fire safety training that’s tailored to the needs of people with learning disabilities, which is why Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has asked us to organise these sessions.

“They’re structured in a lively, active way that is interactive and inclusive which is exactly the kind of format our service users, and others with learning disabilities, need.”
