Fund set up to remember Mansfield’s late Cantamus Choir founder

Founder of award winning Cantamus Choir, Pamela Cook, has touched the hearts of millions of people with her all girl choir.

But now the Mansfield community wants to give something back to the late arts ambassador by raising donations for a head and shoulders sculpture.

Pamela died on 11th July from a stroke leaving Mansfield a much quieter place.

Mansfield District Council have led the calls to help pay for the memorial tribute.

Geoffrey Thompson, Pamela’s husband, said: “Pamela started singing when she was two and it was what she lived for. I was thrilled when the council came to me with the idea of a bust in memorial to Pamela.

“I think it would be excellent.”

Joy Bentley, a north Yorkshire sculptor, has offered to make the bust but donations are needed to make the tribute a reality.

Sheila Haslam, secretary for Cantamus Choir, said the group hope the tribute goes ahead.

“We have already had some donations in Pamela’s memory which we hope to be split between the council’s tribute and one of our own we are yet to decide. I think it is a wonderful gesture.

“Everybody in the choir is extremely excited. We hope that it will be a reminder to everyone in the future what an inspiration she has been in the community,” She said.

Donations are now being accepted to the official Pamela Cook Memorial Fund.
