Full house as community says goodbye

HUCKNALL Parish Church was packed for the funeral service of well-known local resident Yvonne Turner, who died suddenly on 29th October at the age of 58 after suffering a second stroke.

Mrs Turner’s sons, Andy and Garry, were among the pallbearers who carried Mrs Turner’s coffin, which was draped with a Unon Jack, into the church.

Andy, who has achieved fame as an athlete, paid a moving tribute to his mother during the service.

He said one of his most cherished memories was of his mum meeting him on the trackside after he won the 110 metres hurdles at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona.

He added that Mrs Turner and his father, Malcolm, were his biggest fans and travelled all over the world to support him.

Mrs Turner, a grandmother of four, and her husband formerly ran a business as underwear manufacturers, known as MY Apparel, in Hucknall.

As a leading light in the Air Training Corps (ATC), Mrs Turner served with the Hucknall and Sutton-in-Ashfield squadrons. Wing Commander Tony Wright, of the ATC, said Mrs Turner would be remembered with much love and affection.

The rector of Hucknall, Canon Kathryn Herrod, who conducted the service, said Mrs Turner had been a source of inspiration to a great many people.
