POLICE are warning Rainworth residents of thieves operating in the area after four houses in the same street were burgled over the weekend.
They happened on Cambridge Road between Saturday and Sunday.
In all incidents the intruders gained entry through the rear of the property and stole a number of items including jewellery, cash and bank cards.
Officers say in three of the break-ins the victims, who were all elderly, were out at the time.
In the fourth incident an elderly man was at home. He was unaware of the burglars and unharmed, but he was left distressed by the intrusion.
Residents in the vicinity have been visited by officers and patrols have been increased in the area to provide reassurance and deter further incidents.
Pc Lisa Mortimore said: “We are urging residents to be security conscious and vigilant. Lock doors and windows, fit burglar alarms and security lights, where possible, and keep valuable items, including keys, away from view.
“Now that we are well into the dark evenings, invest in a timer for your lamps so that even when you are not at home, your house looks occupied.
“If you have received an unsolicited approach to buy jewellery, or have any information about these recent burglaries, call us.”
Witnesses or anyone with any information should contact Pc Mortimore on 101, extension 809 7861, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
