Former Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington offers top bridal fitness package as part of SwimBritain challenge competition

Mansfield’s golden girl Becky Adlington is offering top training and health tips to help get brides-to-be looking their very best for the big day.

The Olympic gold medalist, who recently announced her engagement to boyfriend Harry Needs, is giving three lucky ladies the chance to join Becky’s Brides as part of an exclusive competition.

The brides will join Becky in the pool during the British Gas SwimBritain challenge in September when one lucky Bride-to-be and two friends will receive a Bridal Fitness package created and tailored for the team by Becky herself.

The SwimBritain challenge, which aims to get more people invovled in the sport, is the first relay team event of its kind and takes place on 1st September at 10 pools nationwide, with teams completing a distance of 4,000m.

Becky, who still holds the 800m freesytle world record, said: “Becky’s Brides is something that is different and a lot of fun, which is how the idea started.

“Whether you want to take part with your bridesmaids or your friends, the swimming challenge is a great way of being in shape for the big day.

“It is a great way to stay fit and healthy. Swimming is so much fun and a great way of making friends. The social aspect of swimming is something I have always loved.

“You do not have to swim competitively to enjoy the sport, many people just want to have some fun, relax and to stay in shape.

“Being part of a team is a great way of staying motivated. The SwimBritain challenge is just about taking part and having fun.”

The 10-week fitness plan is packed full of beauty tips such as protecting skin and hair in the pool, chlorine-resistant manicures, healthy eating ideas and training techniques for the big event – whether your wedding day or SwimBritain.

Becky, who shot to world stardom after winning two gold medals in Beijing’s 2008 Olympics, retired from competitive swimming after winning two bronze medals at her home Olympics in London last summer.

But, for Becky, as one chapter of her life closed, another one opened with a host of new challenges coming her way.

“It is great to have a new challenge and working with British Gas to promote swimming is something I am really enjoying,” said Becky.

“I want to get as many peoeple into the pool as possible, whether they are new or old swimmers.

“Swimming is something you can do all year round and is an excellent way of staying in shape and I hope to get as many people invovled as possible.

“Life is busy since I retired from the pool with the various projects I have got going on, but it is a lot of fun.

“I have got some media work with the BBC coming up in Barcelona and it is great to stay involved in swimming like that. It has also been rewarding working with British Gas getting people involved in swimming.
