FORMER Kirkby pet shop owner Bill Bailey has died aged 87.
Mr Bailey and his wife, Peggy, opened their first pet shop in the town, before buying the Pets And Gardens shop in Hucknall in the 1960s.
Mr Bailey retired at the age of 65 but, 11 years later, he resumed his ownership of the shop for a further three years until he retired for the second time at the age of 79.
He was born in Newstead. His family moved to Papplewick Lane, Hucknall, when Mr Bailey was four and he continued living there for the rest of his life.
At the age of 17, Mr Bailey joined the Royal Air Force.
He was stationed in Egypt and then Italy during the Second World War.
He kept in touch with many wartime friends through the RAF Association and the 148 Squadron Association, of which he was treasurer.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Ian, a daughter, Lesley, four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The funeral took place at Mansfield Crematorium
