Former Forest chef hopes his breakfast is Mansfield's biggest

A former Forest chef has come up with a gut-busting 52 item breakfast, and is hoping it is the biggest in Mansfield.

Simon King, 31, opened his food truck, called Cater King, on Forest Hill, Nottingham Road this week.

Run by husband and wife team, Simon and Stacey King, Cater King hopes the big breakfast will put them on the map.

Mr King has worked in the catering industry since he was 16, and said that opening his own food truck is a dream.He added: “I’ve worked all over in the industry, in restaurants and hotels.“As a chef at Nottingham Forest Football Club, I was in charge of five kitchens on match days.“I’ve always wanted to run my own food outlet and now this is my opportunity to do it.”“I was an apprentice at 16 , and worked all the way up to head chef level by the time I was 24.”Mr King added: “We wanted to be different and do something that gets us noticed.”

Simon,has worked at The Derbyshire Hotel, Kelham Hall and Nottingham Forest Football Club amongst other places.

The 52 item breakfast called the King’s Banquet Box, will be served in a pizza box, and contains six sausages, six bacon rashers, eight fried eggs, eight hash browns, two tubs of beans, two tubs of tomatoes, four flatcap mushrooms, four slices of bread and butter, four slices of toast, four black pudding slices, and two teas, coffees or orange juices. The mammoth breakfast clocks in at a whopping 4,600 calories, which is over twice the recommended daily amount for women. The breakfast will cost £22 and is designed to be shared.Using high quality produce from local suppliers - Robert Bowrings Butchers and Troops, the King’s are hoping the breakfast box will be a big hit.

Cater King, formerly known as Snafflez ,is now open 6:30 -2:30 Monday to Saturday and will prepare and sell a wide range of breakfast and lunch dishes all made with the finest locally sourced ingredients.If the breakfast box doesn’t whet your appetite, Cater King also offer gourmet burgers in brioche buns, jacket potatoes , lunch specials and homemade sausage rolls and pastries.Cater King are also holding a monthly competition to win an breakfast banquet box.For more information, find them on facebook here
