Forest Town driver banned following police chase

A Forest Town slaughterman has been banned from driving for a year for a raft of motoring offences.

Brett Tyrone Denby (22) of Second Avenue, was stopped by police on 1st May on Clipstone Road, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday, 22nd May.

But as police climbed from their vehicle to question Denby, he sped away, overtaking dangerously and resulting in a police chase through the streets of Mansfield.

The court was told that Denby, who has a recent conviction for drink driving, had been late for work and took his father-in-law’s Vauxhall Corsa.

Denby eventually crashed the vehicle into bollards on land off Newlands Road, Forest Town, where he tried to escape on foot but was arrested, the court heard.

Prosecuting, Neil Hollett told the court: The Corsa came to a stop when the police officers applied the blue light on their vehicle.

“But as the officers climbed out of their own vehicle, the Corsa sped away towards Clipstone, overtaking dangerously, and other police vehicles had to join the pursuit.”

Defence lawyers told the court that Denby had been warned about being late for work and had taken the vehicle out of panic.

Denby admitted failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and driving without due care and attention.

Denby had previous convictions for motoring offences, including a 12-month ban for drink driving, the court heard.

He was banned for a further 12 months, fined £185 and ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

He was also ordered to pay a further £180 in outstanding court fines.
