And as well as a birthday card from the Queen, lifelong Forest fan May was given a football signed by the team and a signed card from Stuart Pierce to mark her birthday on Sunday.

“All the other residents were singing along - they had a whale of a time.

“It was poignant because it was Remembrance Sunday and the old folks were waving their flags.”

Mrs Clarke married her late husband Frank at the age of 20 and she lived in their marital home on Huthwaite Road Sutton for 76 years. The couple had no children.

Her sisters Iris Bridger, 95 and Clarice Jagusz 89 both still live in the town.

Mr Jagusz said his aunt and uncle were season ticket holders at Nottingham Forest until Mr Clarke died 26 years ago.

“I remember going with them to the 1959 Cup Final against Luton Town.”
