Forest legend gives local business that winning feeling

A Mansfield IT worker felt like cup winner after landing a new job and meeting one of his football heroes.

Dave Richardson had just become the newest member of the team at Geostream Solutions when he heard John McGovern would be visiting the company’s offices.

Dave explained his excitement at meeting McGovern, who famously captained Nottingham Forest to two European Cups under Brian Clough.

“I was a Junior Red in the Clough era, and a fan ever since,” said Dave. “So this was something special for me.

“I’ve listened to him for years on Radio Nottingham, so to see him with his medals and hear his stories was something I must admit I bragged to all my friends about.”

McGovern was at Geostream to show his appreciation to staff and directors for the backing they offer the Reds—a commercial relationship now in its fifth year.

Director Matthew Caunt said the call came out of the blue, but McGovern felt it was important to thank them in person.

“Every club looks for support,” said McGovern. “If you get that via a sponsorship it’s helpful. It takes a lot of money to run a football club today.

“Firms that sponsor regularly are worth their weight in gold to us.”
