Football match raises £6,000 for Portland College’s £2m charity campaign

More than £6,000 was raised for Portland College’s £2m campaign to develop a brand new sports centre during a charity football match.

The match took place at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on 9th May as businesses and fellow fundraisers came together for the worthy cause.

The Nottingham Road college aims to build a state-of-the-art sports complex to cater for disabled sports organisations across Mansfield and Ashfield.

Elite level competitors will also be able to use the impressive facility as a new training base.

Speaking after the match Andrea Hudson, who is heading up the fundraising campaign for the college, said the match had far exceeded all expectations.

“We were aiming for £4,000 so to get £6,000 is fantastic,” she said.

“The event went very well and we will be holding it again next year. Businesses came forward with sponsorship and players raised money as well.

“The campaign has really caught the imagination of the public and we are very pleased with how everything is going.”

Since the campaign launched businesses across Mansfield and Ashfield have rallied to the college’s aid, with fundraising events taking place in the Four Seasons shopping centre in Mansfield and at Pure Gym on Nottingham Road.

Mansfield-based business Atmospheric Interiors have also taken the campaign on as their charity of the year.
