Football club sign up to learning deal

As part of a scheme through UCATT’s (Union of Construction, Allied Trades & Technicians) Unionlearn Project, the idea is to develop working partnerships to set up work-related training schemes for the unemployed.

Its aims is to sign up businesses to provide facilities to enable training courses to take place, run by the union, within the communities that need it most.

The football club in Hucknall is the first business in Ashfield to offer their facilities under this scheme but the union is hoping more will sign up too.

“This agreement means that we can run a wide range of learning, training and skills initiatives for local unemployed people and the wider community in conjunction with HTFC,” explains UCATT National Youth and Apprentice Organiser, Keir Morrison.

“We are very pleased to sign this learning agreement today and hope that more businesses or community groups will offer their support.”

Funding for the scheme comes from the union accessing grants from the Government’s Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) department.

“The main objective of this project is to assist members of the community back into employment through equipping them with the required and improved skills set,” added Mr Morrison who is also a Hucknall councillor.

HTFC hope to improve community links with the partnership.

“We are delighted to join forces with UCATT who will be running a series of programs and events targeted at local people from school leavers through to senior citizens,” said a HTFC spokesman.

“This is an exciting chance for both the football club and for local residents to access new learning opportunities.”
