Football club fighting a losing battle against yobs

Vandals have ripped spikes from a fence at a Warsop football pitch which are endangering the safety of walkers and pets.

Warsop resident Graham Hall, secretary of Wellbeck Lions FC told a meeting of Warsop Parish Council:

“A few years ago we had an investment of more than £30,000 for a palisade fence around the sports ground.

“At the moment the spikes are being ripped off an strewn all over the place, so this is a warning not only to the dog walkers but also to the general public who walk around there.” He said the Meden Vale club was ‘fighting a losing battle against yobs’, adding:

“We’ve had quad bikers on the smaller of the sports fields. As a football club we are concerned about a lack of respect from youths.

“They don’t play football or rugby and they don’t care. They just want to spoil things for others and abuse the facilities which have had so much effort put into providing them for the community.”
