Flu warning for diabetic patients

NHS England in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire is urging those with diabetes and chronic liver or kidney disease to protect themselves and get their seasonal flu vaccination as soon as possible.

Flu jab clinics are now well underway in GP surgeries, and people with diabetes, chronic liver or kidney disease are among the priority groups for the free vaccine.

Linda Syson-Nibbs, Public Health Screening and Immunisation Lead (Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire) at NHS England, said:“People should not underestimate the effects of seasonal flu. It is not the same as getting a cold. It can seriously affect your health and the risks of developing complications are greater if you have a serious long term health condition, such as diabetes, liver or kidney disease.

“This can be prevented by having the flu vaccine, which is being provided free at GP surgeries across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire for people most at risk.”

“If you haven’t already been invited for a free flu jab, contact your GP surgery to find out when they are holding clinics and make sure you look after yourself during the cold weather.”
