Floodlighting may be added at Hucknall park

Plans for improvements to Hucknall’s Nabbs Lane Park were revealed at a recent meeting of the Reach Out residents’ group.

Lee Sycamore, of Ashfield District Council, talked about proposals for floodlighting of the park’s BMX cycle track.

He said a decision was due to be made by the council’s planning committee later this month, following a consultation period.

Mr Sycamore said there would be three main floodlighting columns and additional lighting on the adjoining road frontage, shining onto the track.

The lighting would make for longer safe use of the track and it would be controlled by a solar clock so that it would go off at 9pm.

The main lights would stay on a minute or so after the peripheral lights went off, he added.

The track, which was officially opened last year, has proved a real success story and it is very popular with local youngsters.

Mr Sycamore said another proposal for the park was a zip line 30m long, which would run alongside the Multi-Use Games Area away from neighbouring properties. This is due to be installed in the second week of April.

He said there were also plans to ‘refresh’ the toddlers’ play area with new equipment and re-painting.

Another suggestion is for an outdoor gym on the site.

An Active Ashfield games event is due to be held at the BMX track on Sunday May 18 from 12 midday to 4pm.

The meeting was told that there was still a need to promote safe cycling among local children.

Too many youngsters were riding on the road without lights or helmets, it was claimed.
