A fish and chip prize for recycling cooking oil in Nottinghamshire

County residents who take their used cooking oil to their local recycling centre during National Chip week (17th-23rd February) now have the chance to win a fish and chip supper.

Cooking oil can be recycled at all of the recycling centres in Nottinghamshire.

The oil is collected by Living Fuels who then use this valuable resource to create ‘green’ electricity.

Veolia Environmental Services spokesman, Kevin Parker, said: “If used cooking oil is poured down the sink, it can cause blockages in pipes and drains that can be difficult and costly to clean. A much better idea is to wait until your cooking oil is cool enough to decant into a bottle or jar. Then when you’re next visiting the recycling centre, you can recycle the oil and the empty container.”

Coun Jim Creamer, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Environment and Sustainability Committee added: “This is a great initiative which prevents waste oil from polluting our water courses. By recycling their used cooking oil, Nottinghamshire residents are not only protecting their environment but also creating a valuable resource.”
