A Sutton-based manufacturing firm has landed a major new contract to help the Nottingham tramway get up and running.
Fabrikat have been tasked with the supply and installation of pedestrian guardrails and balustrades along the Nottingham Net Phase 2 Tramway and it is a major boost for business after it initially looked set to miss out.
The original contract was handed to a company based in Glasgow which had recently closed down an office in Mansfield after more than 20 years trading in the area.
Managers from Fabrikat turned to the local MP De Piero to ensure that companies in Ashfield also benefit from the multi-million pound tram extension.
Fabrikat was handed contracts when original bidder was unable to start work on the site. The Hamilton Road company secured the contract once it went out to tender.
Gloria De Piero paid a visit the firm. She said: “I’ll always fight tooth and nail for local businesses when they turn to me for help and Fabrikat was no different.
“They’ve got a highly skilled workforce and over half of them live in Ashfield with the others living nearby – so landing this contract is a big boost for the area.”
Commercial manager, Gareth Turvey added; “We were all very pleased to meet Gloria and to thank her for her help support and interest in local business and employment.”
