Firefighters set for another strike day

Members of Nottinghamshire’s Fire Brigades Union will walk out from 10am-7pm on Thursday next week (10 July).

The stike action coincides with proposals by UNISON to stage a 24-hour period of industrial action from midnight to midnight on the same day.

Chief Fire Officer John Buckley said: “Inevitably the simultaneous strike action by members of the FBU and UNISON will have some impact on normal service provision for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, particularly with regard to our support function.

“Some non-response activities such as training may have to be cancelled but, as in previous periods of strike action by the FBU, the Service will continue to provide an emergency response to incidents using specially-trained contingency crews and staff who are not members of the FBU.

“Again I would remind people that response times will be slower than usual due to the reduced number of resources available, so I ask that people do all they can to help keep the number of incidents to a minimum and only call 999 in a genuine emergency.

“I sincerely hope that the government can work with both the FBU and UNISON to achieve speedy resolutions to their respective disputes.”
