Fire at Warsop school was 'started deliberately'

Firefighters say a blaze at a Warsop school was started deliberately.

Pupils and teachers were evacuated from Meden School on Burns Lane after a fire broke out in the toilets.

The incident took place at around 2pm on Friday November 3.

A spokesman from Nottinghamshire Fire Service said: "Firefighters from Warsop and Shirebrook Fire Station were called to Meden School in Burns Lane at 14:18.

"The fire was located in the school toilets and is believed to have been started deliberately.""Two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a positive pressure ventilation fan were used to extinguish the fire."

"Fire crews left the scene at 15:38."

Students and teachers returned to the school as usual on Monday November 6. Speaking on Friday a spokesman from the school said: "“The conduct of the students during the evacuation was exemplary and I am hugely proud of their maturity and the care they took of one another during this event.

“The fire itself was very small and at no time were staff or students at risk."
