Fine for salon over sunbed licence

Victoria and Stefanie Ruston, from Glimmer Hair and Beauty, on Rowan Drive, pleaded guilty to the offence during a hearing at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

They were prosecuted for running an establishment for massage or special treatment without obtaining a licence from Ashfield District Council authorising them to do so.

The offence occurred between 27th March and 20th June 2013 and related to the use of sunbeds.

The women were each fined £250 and ordered to pay costs of £125 and a victim sur-charge of £25.

All premises in Nottinghamshire that offer the use of sunbeds need to obtain a licence under the Nottinghamshire County Council Act 1985.

Coun Andrew Davidson, Ashfield District Council’s portfolio holder for environmental health, said: “The council’s licensing team work hard to ensure that licensing measures and conditions are met by businesses for the protection of the public.

“The use of sunbeds exposes you to an intense form of radiation and if used in an unregulated way, it can lead to an increased risk of skin cancer. It is therefore imperative that businesses make sure the correct procedures are put in place. Residents are encouraged to report any premises that do not have a licence displayed on their premises.”
