The final years of Nottinghamshire’s Sherwood Foresters retold in new book

Historian Cliff Housley has written a detailed account of the final years of The Sherwood Foresters Regiment and the 11,409 men that gave their lives.

Mr Housley’s book The Final Years: A History of The Sherwood Foresters from 1957 to 1970 follows the Foresters on the war in Cyprus and missions in North America.

“There were an awful lot of men that served in the Foresters so I wrote this book with the hope of reaching them and retelling our tale.

“Having served in the Foresters myself, I thought I was in a pretty good position to retell what happened.

“There are funny recollections that only those that were present will know about,” he said.

All the proceeds of the book will go towards the Western Reserve Fire Museum to help boost its funds and keep it running.

Mr Housley, who used to be the museum’s curator, will also be releasing another book of poetry to capture a different side of servicemen.

Released on the back of The Final Years, Poetry From The Trenches will feature a collection of never before seen poetry from servicemen.
